A new warning was issued by James Madden of Exacta Weather, saying that “talk of milder weather for this weekend is missing the bigger picture for next week”.
He said, “forecasts will soon be discussing the prospect of widespread snow.”
As we approach Christmas and New Year’s, Mr. Madden provided an update on the most likely dates for snow flurries, with special emphasis on December 19 and December 22.
Madden predicts that the “northern half of the country” will receive the majority of the snowfall.
He did, however, add that it would not “necessarily [be] restricted to these parts as the week progresses”.
“The risk of a true White Christmas will still primarily remain with parts to the north of the country. But some subtle changes between now and then could literally see this whole outlook changing significantly to deliver the chance of more widespread snow within the 24 hours of Christmas Day.”
Bookmakers last week offered a 3/1 chance of a White Christmas, with Glasgow ranking first among UK cities most likely to get snow on December 25. Edinburgh and Newcastle also ranked highly.
