MPs vow to make ‘Britain the best place in the world to be a veteran’

Ministers pledged to make Britain the best country in the world for veterans, and businesses were urged to hire more veterans.

A little over 11,000 businesses have ratified the Armed Forces Covenant, which guarantees that former service members won’t face discrimination upon their return to the workforce.

The government is pushing for additional businesses to join in order to provide “world-class” veterans with possibilities.

Minister for Disabilities Mims Davies brought up the example of war veteran Nik Eley, who lost his leg in battle but was assisted in finding employment again.

She said: “Nik is an inspiration to all those members of the armed forces community who have left service and are ready to take the next step in their careers.

“The British Armed Forces are the best in the world and the skills its members have gained should be harnessed by every business.

“I’m calling on employers who haven’t already done so, to sign-up to the Armed Forces Covenant and provide opportunities for our world-class veterans.”

Veterans and their families can get assistance finding new jobs thanks to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and armed forces advocates, who are stationed all over the nation and frequently served in the military.

Although the government can assist, it stated that employers must provide veterans with the jobs necessary for them to succeed.

Governments, corporations, veterans’ organisations, and all signatories to the agreement have pledged to support veterans and their families, as well as those who have served or are serving in the armed services.

Businesses that sign the Covenant promise to serve the community by helping members advance in their professions and providing work opportunities that are suited to their needs.
