DWP asks Brits to check bank accounts for £600 worth of payments this week – exact DATE revealed

Families are advised to double-check their bank accounts in the coming days.

In a few days, UK households will receive Winter Fuel Payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It stated that £600 in payments can be expected.

In November or December, households were supposed to automatically get the cash. However, the government later on announced that funds will be deposited into your account.

But if you’re yet to receive the money, you should contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre after Friday (January 26). You can do this by phone or post.

The number to call by phone from outside the UK is: 0191 218 7777. If you’re in the UK, the number is: 0800 731 0160.

To claim through post, you’ll need the relevant form. You’ll need to send it to Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1ZU. The deadline to claim for winter 2023/24 is March 31, 2024.

If you live with someone else who is eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, the amount may be split between the two of you. How it’s done depends on when you were born and which benefits you receive.

To claim the payment, you’ll need to live in the UK.

However, if you moved to an eligible country before January 1, 2021, and have a “genuine and sufficient link to the UK” – such as living and working here previously – you will qualify.

The following countries are eligible: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
