Brits flying to Spain WARNED with deadly temperatures up to 40C

Brits jetting to Spain have been warned they face deadly heat with temperatures roaring to 40C.

The latest extreme scorcher struck yesterday with the Spanish state weather service issuing a “special notice” orange weather warning across many regions.

A yellow weather warning for rising temperatures is also in place across the Balearic Islands and the Canaries, which are top holiday hotspots for Brits.

The highest temperatures topping 40C are expected to hit the Cadiz, Cordoba, Huelva and Seville regions. Meanwhile, Huesca and Zaragoza are forecast to reach 39C over the next 48 hours.

Spain’s state weather service added: “In the coming days there will be a progressive rise in temperatures in much of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.”

The UK Foreign Office has warned Brits to keep up their water intake, avoid alcohol, wear light baggy clothing and monitor those with health conditions.

From Wednesday there is a chance the weather could break, making way for showers and thunderstorms.

t comes after many parts of Europe were ravaged by blazing heat triggering devastating wildfires in Greece and Tenerife.

The blaze in the Canary Islands that started Tuesday night was centred on a craggy, mountainous area, which is difficult for emergency brigades to gain access to.

It was dubbed Spain’s worst blaze so far this summer, as the country suffers another year of severe drought.

More than 2,000 people were evacuated in a wildfire on the nearby La Palma island last month that affected more than 11,000 acres of land.

Wildfires have burned almost 158,000 acres in Spain in the first seven months of the year, according to Spanish government data, with the Government scrambling to find a way to limit any more damage from taking place.

Spain has accounted for almost 40% of the nearly two million acres burned in the European Union in 2022, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.
