New York-born Boris Johnson hints White House bid – ‘I don’t rule it out!’

Former UK PM Boris Johnson, who was born in New York City, has stated that he would not rule out running for President of the United States.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, who was forced to resign as British Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022, appears to be looking for a second act in his political career.

While Westminster observers have long speculated that such a second act would take the form of a bid to reclaim his previous position as Prime Minister, Mr Johnson threw a wrench in the works this week when he told the Spectator magazine, “I don’t rule it out,” in reference to a possible presidential run.

In 1964, the former British prime minister was born in New York City while his father, Stanley Johnson, was a student at Columbia University. Mr Johnson renounced his US citizenship in 2016 to “ensure he is out of reach of America’s Internal Revenue Service,” as the US is the only country, with the exception of the war-torn African nation Eritrea, that taxes its citizens’ overseas income.

Johnson, who is currently on tour in the United States lobbying the American government to increase spending on the Ukrainian war effort, refused to tell the magazine whether he would run as a Democrat or a Republican if he decided to run for President of the United States.
