According to the survey, the former leader of the Brexit Party and Ukip would unseat the Tory incumbent in Clacton, Essex, with 37% of the vote.

The chances of him pulling off a spectacular return have increased thanks to research that his close associate Aaron Banks commissioned.

He told the Sunday Times: “I have to say to you that this poll does make the balance of probabilities towards getting back on the pitch stronger.

“This poll does make me consider getting back on the pitch far more seriously than ever before.”

The Survation survey, which involved 509 participants and was conducted between Tuesday and Friday, placed the Conservatives 10 points behind Mr. Farage at 27%.

Labour came in third with 23% of the vote, followed by the Lib Dems in fourth place with 6% and other candidates with 8%.

Damian Lyons Lowe, founder and chief executive of Survation said: “Clacton is fertile territory for Reform, and the party is attracting one-quarter of those who voted Conservative in 2019 and one-quarter of Leave voters.

“If, however, Nigel Farage were to stand as the Reform candidate in Clacton, he would win the seat from the Conservatives.”

The constituency, which voted 70 per cent for Brexit, is the only seat Ukip has won at a general election. It is currently held by Tory MP Giles Watling.

Ever since he placed third on I’m A Celebrity, there has been growing speculation that Mr. Farage may return to front-line politics.

Although he is currently an honorary president of Reform UK, formerly the Brexit Party, the former MEP has not ruled out making a return to leadership of the organisation.
