Rail passengers face a week of travel disruption due to strikes and other types of industrial action in long-running, contentious disputes over pay, jobs, and conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport union) and ASLEF (The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) are on strike. The ASLEF supports drivers, whilst the RMT represents workers from a variety of industries, including station staff and guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aslef members at 16 train companies in England went on strike on Saturday and will strike again tomorrow (October 4), coinciding with the Conservative Party’s annual conference in Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many regions of the country will be without services on strike days, and those that do run will begin and end later than usual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, Northern, Southeastern, and Transpennine Express are among the operators warning of service disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drivers\u00a0were\u00a0prohibited\u00a0from\u00a0working\u00a0overtime\u00a0on\u00a0Friday\u00a0and\u00a0are\u00a0refusing\u00a0to\u00a0work\u00a0rest\u00a0days\u00a0again\u00a0this\u00a0week\u00a0(Monday,\u00a0October\u00a02\u00a0to\u00a0Friday,\u00a0October\u00a03),\u00a0causing\u00a0chaos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0union,\u00a0railway\u00a0companies\u00a0have\u00a0always\u00a0failed\u00a0to\u00a0hire\u00a0enough\u00a0drivers\u00a0to\u00a0offer\u00a0a\u00a0proper\u00a0service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
