{"id":4425,"date":"2023-07-06T11:50:48","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T11:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savebritain.org\/?p=4425"},"modified":"2023-07-06T11:50:50","modified_gmt":"2023-07-06T11:50:50","slug":"watch-keir-starmer-speech-disrupted-by-protestors-as-hes-blasted-for-u-turns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savebritain.org\/watch-keir-starmer-speech-disrupted-by-protestors-as-hes-blasted-for-u-turns\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: Keir Starmer speech DISRUPTED by protestors as he&#8217;s blasted for &#8216;U-turns&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Climate protesters disrupted Sir Keir Starmer&#8217;s address, accusing him of abandoning his \u00a328 billion green prosperity plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a significant address in Gillingham, the Labour Party leader announced proposals to restructure the school system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaigners requested a &#8220;green new deal&#8221; and that he reinstate the \u00a328 billion a year pledge for green programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Let me finish,&#8221; Starmer said to two demonstrators holding a banner reading &#8220;Green New Deal Now.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to the activists, he said: \u201cI think you may have missed my last mission was on clean energy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Labour leader told the pair he would \u201cspeak to you after\u201d as they were led off stage by security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&#039;Stop making U-turns&#039;: Protesters disrupt Keir Starmer&#039;s speech\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ifDLEJR95h8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once they were escorted off stage, Starmer said: \u201cI think they may have missed the fact that the last mission I launched was on clean power by 2030 which is the single most effective way to get the green future that they and many others want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Climate activists from the Green New Deal Rising group claimed responsibility for the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the group, one of the protesters was student Dieudonne Bila, who said in a statement: \u201cI disrupted&nbsp;KeirStarmer\u2019s&nbsp;speech because I desperately want to see a future government committed to protecting people here and all over the world from the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe won\u2019t stand by and allow private companies to continue making billions as heating becomes unaffordable, or be silent in the face of extreme heat, flooding and droughts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuing with his speech, Starmer vowed to \u201cchange Britain\u201d to ensure that children\u2019s prospects are not determined by their parents\u2019 wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI promise you this, whatever the obstacles to opportunity, wherever the barriers to hope, my Labour government will tear them down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes after climate protestors caused chaos on Wimbledon Tennis Championships Court 18 twice yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During two separate matches at the prestigious tennis event, protesters hurled orange confetti and jigsaw pieces on the turf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crowds applauded as officials escorted demonstrators from the court.<\/p>\n<!-- wpsso rrssb get buttons: buttons on archive option not enabled -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Climate protesters disrupted Sir Keir Starmer&#8217;s address, accusing him of abandoning his \u00a328 billion green prosperity plan.
