A former Tory MP is set to be released from prison after serving only half of his sentence for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imran Ahmed Khan, 48, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty in May of last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Times, the former Wakefield MP could be released on probation as soon as today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court heard during the trial that Khan forced the boy to drink gin at a party in 2008 before taking him upstairs, pushing him onto a bed, and asking him to watch pornography before the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A photo of him leaving jail this morning showed him with long hair and a beard after serving nine months of his sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the trial, Khan has appealed against his sentence and conviction, but both were upheld as he maintains his innocence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judge Jeremy Baker, sentencing said he displayed a “significant degree of brutality”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: “\u201cThe only regret you feel is towards yourself for having found yourself in the predicament you face as a result of your actions some 14 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlthough it may well be over the years you had let yourself believe you had got away with having committed this offence, I am sure you were aware from the outset there was a risk there would be a day of reckoning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim told the court he was “scared, vulnerable, numb, shocked and surprised” after the incident but did not want to make a formal complaint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only in 2019 when Khan ran in the General Election did the victim say the memories “came flooding back”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khan, who is gay, claimed denied the charge claiming he only touched the teenager’s elbow when he \u201cbecame extremely upset\u201d during a conversation about his confused sexuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khan’s conviction triggered a by-election in the Wakefield district which was won by Labour\u2019s Simon Lightwood in June.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
