{"id":3905,"date":"2023-02-01T11:43:54","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T11:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savebritain.org\/?p=3905"},"modified":"2023-02-01T11:43:58","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T11:43:58","slug":"first-time-britons-suffering-from-seizure-disorders-to-be-given-cannabis-medicines-by-nhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savebritain.org\/first-time-britons-suffering-from-seizure-disorders-to-be-given-cannabis-medicines-by-nhs\/","title":{"rendered":"FIRST TIME: Britons suffering from seizure disorders to be given Cannabis medicines by NHS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the first time, Britons suffering from a rare seizure disorder will be able to obtain cannabis-based medicine through the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this week, doctors in NHS England will be able to prescribe Epidyolex to patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) (January 31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 1,000 patients could benefit from the &#8220;life-changing&#8221; treatment, according to campaigners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, 6,000 people are affected by a rare genetic condition that causes non-cancerous tumours to develop in various parts of the body, resulting in health problems ranging from epilepsy to learning difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, a law change made it legal for doctors to prescribe medicinal cannabis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Epidyolex has since been approved for NHS use to treat five different conditions, including multiple sclerosis, severe epilepsies known as Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, and nausea caused by chemotherapy in adults.<\/p>\n<!-- wpsso rrssb get buttons: buttons on archive option not enabled -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time, Britons suffering from a rare seizure disorder will be able to obtain cannabis-based medicine through the NHS.
