The ‘Festival of Brexit,’ which was funded by taxpayers to the tune of \u00a3120 million, is infested with woke events featuring drag queens and harping on the imperial roots of gardening – and failing to attract visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Leave-voting members of the public may have expected that the generously-funded event, rebranded \u2018Unboxed: Creativity in the UK\u2019 under Boris Johnson, the supposed Brexit Prime Minister, would be a World\u2019s Fair style showcase of the best of British manufacturing and traditional culture. what their money has actually bought seems very far from any such vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even so, the Festival of Brexit, first announced in 2018 by Remain-voting ex-prime minister Theresa May, is an expensive spectacle of left-wing wokery, with events such as a talk on “decolonising” the British garden \u2014 which was allegedly “shaped by imperialism” \u2014 and a BBC-backed performance celebrating Black Lives Matter destroying a historic British statue titled “White Juju.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s also throwing a Family Catwalk Extravaganza with “stunning drag performers,” a “ballistic drag party,” a “queer make-up masterclass,” and, of course, a drag queen story time event for kids, “celebrating the imagination and play of gender fluidity in childhood, while giving kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This festival has got nothing to do with Brexit. It is an excuse to put on display the latest wokish fads,\u201d said emeritus professor of sociology Frank Furedi of the event in comments to MailOnline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen people are asked to decolonise their garden, you know that what\u2019s at issue is the promotion of woke propaganda and not a love of horticulture,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the Festival of Brexit’s lack of Brexit is intentional, with the event’s creative director Martin Green reportedly asking government ministers, \u201cCan I ascertain it\u2019s not a Brexit festival? You don\u2019t want some kind of jingoistic jamboree? \u201d \u2014 which rather gives the game away as to his personal feelings on actually patriotic festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival of Brexit is not only another example of the so-called Conservative Party’s total failure to control the rapid spread of woke ideology during its 12 years in power, but it is also a failure on its own terms, having attracted only 238,000 visitors \u2014 far short of its “stretch target” of 66 million.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
