Macy Gray, a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and actress, has been calling out trans hysteria, a reason that has upset the transgender community and its supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gray spoke to Morgan about her views on trans women who identify as “real women” while visiting the Rupert Murdoch-owned Piers Morgan Uncensored talk show, and as a result of her comments, many have accused Gray of being transphobic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gray spoke out against trans women competing in cis sports due to their “obvious superior physical bodies” in the 12-minute and 48-second interview, as well as her confusion with pronoun labels, specifically “he, she, and they.” Ironically, she discussed her support for the trans community receiving more “fairness and equality” rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Morgan and Gray discuss her views on “what a woman is” and how celebrities are “too terrified” to speak out against controversial topics due to cancel culture and backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI totally agree,\u201d Gray responded. \u201cI will say this and everybody\u2019s going to hate me, but, as a woman, just because you go change your parts, doesn\u2019t make you a woman. Sorry.\u201d She added, \u201cIf you want me to call you a \u2018her\u2019, I will because that\u2019s what you want. But that doesn\u2019t make you a woman just because I call you a \u2018her\u2019 and just because you got a surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She explained how her views on the subject were shaped by her own “unique experience” as a young woman, saying, “Surgery or finding yourself doesn’t change that. Being a little girl is a whole epic book, you know? And you can\u2019t have that just because you want to be a woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She went on to say, “I don’t think you should be labelled transphobic just because you don’t agree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the interview, which has over 111,000 views, social media began buzzing about Gray’s divisive views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Gray dealt with the backlash, which included some longtime fans vowing to boycott streaming her music and attending her concerts, British author J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to suggest she’s willing to pick up any slack caused by the negative press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
JK didn’t appear to be joking when she responded to a Gray critic who suggested the singer’s career was over because of the transphobic remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Today feels like a good day to make sure I’ve purchased [Macy Gray’s] entire back catalogue,” Rowling said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
