The UK’s top-paid public sector diversity chief is a Network Rail employee who earns \u00a3164,999 a year and previously shared an article accusing Boris Johnson – who she earns more than – of ‘white privilege’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Loraine Martins, Network Rail’s director of diversity and inclusion, is responsible for ensuring the network is more ‘open, diverse and inclusive’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Data released by the government shows Mr Martins is paid a minimum of \u00a3160,000 which can rise to a maximum of \u00a3164,999, meaning she could earn more than the Prime Minister whose yearly salary is capped at \u00a3162,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2018, she used her Twitter account to share a comment piece from the Guardian which accused Boris Johnson, then foreign secretary, of ‘white privilege’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in April 2021, she retweeted a post that accused the government of ‘corruption’, although the retweet has since been removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before joining Network Rail, Ms Martins led a team on ‘equality and inclusion and employment and skills’ during the construction of the Olympic Park ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was awarded an MBE for that work and last year made an OBE ‘for her work to improve diversity throughout Network Rail’.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
